Keep McGuinness Moving advocates for safety improvements along McGuinness Boulevard, while preserving all four traffic lanes and parking. We believe infrastructure is an essential service for the community as a whole. McGuinness Blvd. is a part of our community and our great city!
The city has pledged $39MM to "fully redesign" McGuinness Boulevard in Greenpoint. The NYC DOT plans to remove one lane of vehicle traffic in each direction for the installation of a bicycle lane.
These changes will create traffic, disrupt residence, endanger public safety by delaying emergency vehicles, and destroy the local economy, businesses, and employees.
We understand that other community advocacy groups may portray vehicles in a negative light and support the sole use of bicycles. However, these groups never discussed with the NYC DOT or the community about other viable ways of making McGuinness Blvd. safe and efficient for everyone. Removing a traffic lane in each direction of McGuinness should be the LAST option after all alternatives have been proposed, implemented, and tested.
